I stumbled upon a really catchy tune the other day while I was hunting around looking for new music. It was a track called Rest from an artist called Starn.
Based in Zambia, Starn is a Gospel R&B artist, producer and entertainer. Launching his career in 2004 Starn dedicated his time in music to learning to play the piano, drums and base guitar, thus gaining a dynamic foundation for his work in music. Becoming the leader of the Praise and Worship team in his home church, The Capital Christian Worship Centre, Starn honed and shaped his craft and in time gave birth to his own unique chilled out sound.
In 2006 Starn worked with the team at the renowned Zambian music studio ‘Kula Studios’ to record and master his début album with stunning tracks like ‘Never be the Same’, ‘Nimwebo Mweka’ and ‘Filapwa’. After recording his album, Starn worked hard on his ministry seeking to challenge while still encouraging those his music touched. Aimed at the young generation of today, he was pleasantly surprised to find that both young and old shared in the enjoyment of his ministry and music.
Encouraged by this, Starn went on to launch his album in 2009 in Lusaka and Livingstone. Shortly after the launch Starn took time out to get back to his roots and grow his relationship with God. Inspired by the word, Starn launched his own record label ‘Lola Records’ and began work on his second album.
Early in 2011 Starn began touring the country giving his fans the much desired chance to experience his ministry and music live. The tour proved to be a massive success, and his album quickly has become a sensation with the Zambian Christian Music world. Enjoying sustained air time through popular demand ‘Hallelujah’, ‘Favour’ and ‘Lsk Party’ have become the leading singles from the album.
In 2010 Starn turned his attention to film and media, staring in a short movie called ‘The Zed Crew’ filmed in Zambia. The film which was screened at the Cannes International Film Festival tells the story of modern young urban Zambians in their quest for fame and fortune as aspiring Rappers. On a quest to make it to America the three young artists become entangled in a desperate struggle to pursue their dreams using desperate measures to reach for the stars.
Back in the studio Starn has worked with some incredible artists and is excited about the launch of his latest venture, a brand new album scheduled for release on the 25th March 2012. Starn certainly has a unique ministry and a humble, yet inspiring voice. His music is catchy and dynamic, and we strongly recommend that you have a listen and get his tracks on your iPod.
