Mob Figgaz
The Zimbabwean Hip Hop scene has had a massive hole blown in its side as a brand new Rap Duo sensation has blasted its way onto the scene.
MobFiggaz the group is bound together by blood as two brothers take the stage in this dynamic duo. Tatenda Castone Mafika and Takunda Carlos Mafika have the strength and charisma that comes from family unity as the corner stone of the groups success.
Born in Southerton in Harare, MobFiggaz began life in 2002 as the boys decided to put their lifelong passion for music into a formulated and determined musical career. From the street corners of their neighbourhood and musical efforts in school to headlining at major events throughout Zimbabwe the duo have developed an accomplished yet singular sound all of their own.
From humble beginnings, Tatenda and Takunda have won credibility in a tough and often ruthless industry, launching their very own record label in 2007 called Mob Entertainment. It was the launch of their own label that catapulted MobFiggaz centre stage as the group were suddenly lined up for performances at Teen Scene, Battle of the Year and Big Brother house warming shows.
Collaborations with the likes of Mr Feel Good aka Andrew Musonza have led to tracks like ‘Mob Thang’ becoming hugely popular with the urban street culture in the groups home town of Southerton in Harare, Zimbabwe. “Our roots are at the centre of our music movement, and the youth of Southerton know us, and we know them.” said Tatenda talking to us about the groups loyalty to its fans. “We like to make music that emotes and moves our fans. It’s about making them happy first and foremost!”
MobFiggaz latest release ‘Dzimba Dzemabwe’ has enjoyed a lot of hype since its release over the festive period. Through their tightly controlled internet presence Mob Entertainment have reached fans throughout Africa and the wider African diaspora. “We utilise the benefit of social media and the possibilities of internet marketing to our maximum advantage, and we believe we have a leading edge because of this,” Tatenda said.
2012 has a lot in store for MobFiggaz, and there is much to look forward to this year. The group have big plans for an explosion of variety and exciting new music this year and we are sure to be looking out for what else MobFiggaz are going to bring our way this year.
